“It’s alright… until it isn’t” - best practice for managing your company’s digital assets

Prevention is better than cure, right? Most people would probably agree with that when it comes to something important - in life, or in business. The funny thing is that in my 20+ years of experience running PR and Marketing Departments, I have rarely seen that maxim applied to digital assets.

Companies spend fortunes every year de-risking their businesses: developing their products, optimising their supply-chains, acquiring customers and extending their life-time value. Care is taken at every step of the journey - or section of the funnel - to ensure best practice and efficacy, but so often there is an Achilles Heel.

A company’s digital assets, be it actual IP, or  logos, product shots, press releases, video trailers, and so on, are all too often treated with a lot less care than they should be. Antiquated filing systems on old computers? Yes.  A distinct lack of naming conventions, version control or security? You bet. Failsafes? No. Back up? Not likely. Disaster recovery? What’s that. GDPR compliant? You wish.

Any of that sound familiar?
